The Lowdown
Rusty here again, and this time I’m talking feet and Fahrenheit for those who think that way.
Haggerty's is a reef and point break that’s consistent and beginner-friendly when it’s working. The water’s at 71°, which is about 7° warmer than what’s normal for this time of year – that’s a big warm anomaly, so the ocean’s feeling more like a bath than the usual.
This week starts small. Sunday the 19th has 2ft swell from the SW with a long 17-second period. Morning’s clean with a light cross-off breeze, but it’s nothing special. Afternoons get chopped up by cross-on wind. Monday the 20th is more of the same – small, clean mornings, messy afternoons.
Tuesday the 21st morning is where it wakes up. 3ft from the SSW, 16-second period, combined energy at 405 – not huge but solid for the size. Light cross-off, clean. That’s your first good window. Get on it early.
Friday the 24th morning is another standout. 2ft from the SSW, but with a 24-second period and energy at 475. That long period will give the waves plenty of push and shape at this reef and point. Clean, light offshore wind. Worth a look.
Sunday the 26th morning delivers 2ft from the SW, 19 seconds, energy 516. Clean again. Consistent.
Monday the 27th morning is the top pick: 3ft from the SSW, 18-second period, energy at 665. That’s solid moderate energy, light offshore wind, clean conditions. This is the session to plan around. The swell direction matches what this spot likes, and the period means proper waves.
Tuesday the 28th holds up with 3ft from the SW in the morning, 17-second period, energy 521, and even the afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off. Two sessions there.
After that, things drop off. From Wednesday the 29th through the start of August, it’s mostly small, with cross-shore or onshore winds and energy under 300. There’s a brief spike on Saturday the 2nd of August with 3ft from the SSW, 11-second period, but the wind is cross and conditions are marginal. Not worth the effort.
So the takeaway: mornings of Tuesday 21st, Friday 24th, Sunday 26th, Monday 27th, and Tuesday 28th of July are your best bets. Monday the 27th is the cream of the crop. Get out there, because the second week is a bust.
Rusty.
