Tawharanui in Northland is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf Works best in offshore winds from the southwest with some shelter here from south southeast winds. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the best swell direction is from the northeast. The beach break provides left and right handers as well as left and right hand reef breaks. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Often Crowded. Take care of - Rocks - Sharks.

“A very good wave but very crowded best break is to the left of main beach if facing the water, lots of sharks, lots of people, lots of stingrays. Wave closes out over 2-3 foot.”
