Tawharanui in Northland is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf The best wind direction is from the southwest with some shelter here from south southeast winds. Groundswells more frequent than windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the northeast. Waves at the beach are both lefts and rights and there are also left and right hand reef breaks on offer. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Likely to be crowded if working. Take care of - Rocks - Sharks.

“A very good wave but very crowded best break is to the left of main beach if facing the water, lots of sharks, lots of people, lots of stingrays. Wave closes out over 2-3 foot.”
