Tawharanui in Northland is an exposed beach and reef break that has fairly consistent surf Offshore winds are from the southwest with some shelter here from south southeast winds. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the northeast. Waves at the beach break both left and right as well as left and right hand reef breaks. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It's often crowded here. Hazards include - Rocks - Sharks.

“A very good wave but very crowded best break is to the left of main beach if facing the water, lots of sharks, lots of people, lots of stingrays. Wave closes out over 2-3 foot.”
