“Tried out this spot after going a couple of years without surfing. Very reliable wave, even in onshore conditions. Was at least 3 foot every day, and larger on the sets. Wave breaks in two areas, one on the point, and then an A frame a bit further down the beach which often turns into a close-out. Both are much bigger in the water than they look from the beach.
Overall I found the wave quite technical. You need to get your takeoff spot and catch the wave at the right place and moment otherwise the wave has a tendency to wash under you. Getting to the wave is easy via the point or a low power rip near the point which fast forwards you to the backline. But once you're in there's a very strong and fast cross-shore rip that will pull you back and across to shore really quickly and once you're in front of the breakers its difficult to paddle out again.
Must be the easiest South African wave I've seen to get barrelled, and despite its power feels quite forgiving when you get things wrong. Also very uncrowded on weekdays and mornings. On weekends gets crowded and bathers get in your way. Took me 2-3 days to learn, but definitely one of the best spots I have surfed.”
