Centreville Beach Surf Guide

Centreville Beach in Humboldt is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the southeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the southwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. Good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Watch out for and rips.

“Dangerous! Undertow, cross currents, & strong rip-currents; a sand bar that usually maintains a close proximity to shore making wicked shore breaks; and close out waves challenge the stronger paddlers and well practised duck divers or trounce the inexperienced into a more respectful attitude. 3/4/5 wetsuit with hood and booties required most of the year, spring suits w/ no hood or booties on the warmest days of late summer.

That said, there are a couple times per year (if that) when it sets up to be primo! One of my best surfing experiences was a Centerville dawn patrol day with a paddle out almost bath tub flat, sunshine with unusual warm morning very light breeze, spring suit almost not needed, but still worn, and set after set of perfect 8 -12' never-ending tubes well off shore, and only 4 other surfers in the water.”
