Manhattan 26th street Swell Statistics, October: All Swell – Any Wind

The graph describes the range of swells directed at Manhattan 26th street through an average October. It is based on 2480 NWW3 model predictions since 2006 (values every 3 hours). The wave model does not forecast surf and wind right at the shore so we have chosen the most applicable grid node based on what we know about Manhattan 26th street. In the case of Manhattan 26th street, the best grid node is 43 km away (27 miles).

The rose diagram illustrates the distribution of swell sizes and swell direction, while the graph at the bottom shows the same thing but without direction information. Because the wave model grid is away from the coast, sometimes a strong offshore wind blows largest waves away from Manhattan 26th street and out to sea.
