The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s talk Sombrio Beach. It’s a beach and reef setup, best for advanced surfers. Water temp is about normal for this time of year.
The next 16 days start off slow. The real highlight is Thursday morning, September 10 – 1.3m swell from the west, period around 8 seconds, and glassy with light winds. Combined energy is moderate (278). It’ll be clean. Crowds can show up, so get there early.
Monday the 7th is tiny – 0.4m from the SW, 14-second period, glassy in the morning. Energy is weak (145). Not much. Tuesday the 8th morning is similar: 0.5m, 10 seconds, glassy, energy at 112.
Wednesday the 9th morning has 0.6m from the W, 12-second period, but SE wind messes it up. Thursday afternoon the 10th holds 1.2m but goes cross-onshore.
Friday the 11th is average. Saturday the 12th morning has a tiny 0.6m of 15-second SW swell, glassy, energy moderate (261). Saturday afternoon turns cross-shore. Sunday the 13th is mostly small and messy.
From Monday the 14th through Tuesday the 15th, surf dies – 0.2m to 0.4m, energy under 100. A dry spell.
Wednesday the 16th and Thursday the 17th mornings bring a pulse: 0.6m to 0.7m, WNW, 8 seconds, glassy. Energy around 110-123. Small but rideable with clean winds.
Friday the 18th morning has a weird 0.2m of 21-second groundswell from the WSW, glassy, energy moderate (117). That long period might break weird on the beach, but the reef could work.
Saturday the 19th is tiny. Sunday the 20th is cross-shore.
The second week’s best shot is Tuesday morning, September 22 – 1.4m from the west, 11 seconds, combined energy strong (688). Wind is cross-shore, so not perfect, but worth watching.
Best of the run: Thursday the 10th morning. After that, a gap until the 22nd shows some power.
Rusty.
