Playa de Xago Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve got the lowdown for the next couple of weeks here at Playa de Xago. Right now, it’s looking flat and messy, so don’t bother paddling out just yet. We’ve got a solid wait ahead, but there are a couple of windows that’ll get the stoke back up.

The water is sitting at 67°, which is pretty much average for the time of year, so no surprises there.

We’re kicking things off with nothing for Sunday the 26th and Monday morning the 27th is when we finally see some life. Monday morning the 27th is the real standout. The swell comes in at 6ft from the NNW with a clean 10-second period, giving us moderate wave energy (555) and that cross-offshore wind from the ENE will have the faces looking clean. Playa de Xago is exposed to the NW, and the swell direction is a close match, so expect well-shaped, fun waves for the intermediate crew. Crowds are often here, so get out early. The morning is the pick, because by afternoon the wind picks up and it gets a bit less tidy.

Tuesday the 28th morning is still decent with 4ft from the NW and clean conditions, but it’s not the same punch as Monday.

Then we hit a flat spell. From Wednesday the 29th all the way through to the weekend, the swell drops right off. Mostly knee-high junk or glassy but tiny waves. There’s a glassy 2ft on Sunday morning the 2nd of August, but it’s really only a paddle-around session.

Things start to look interesting again on Monday the 3rd of August. The morning is small, but the afternoon brings a solid pulse: 7ft from the WNW, good cross-off wind, and strong wave energy (531). That’s a powerful, clean swell, and it will be a proper session for experienced surfers.

Tuesday the 4th of August morning still has clean 5ft surf with glassy conditions – no wind at all – and moderate energy (346). A really good, user-friendly morning.

After that, the forecast gets a bit messy and inconsistent. Thursday the 6th of August has some glassy, small waves in the afternoon, but nothing to get excited about.

Now, a major caveat for Friday the 7th of August afternoon: the forecast is showing a massive 10ft NW swell with very strong energy (1614). That is way too big for this break and only for experts with nerves of steel, if anyone even gets in. By Saturday the 8th, onshore winds and 8ft swell make it a choppy, blown-out wash-out.

Sunday the 9th of August morning sees the swell drop back to a cleaner 6ft from the NNW, but there’s a light cross-on breeze that will put a little bump on it.

After that, we’re back to small, clean, but ordinary waves for the final days. The pick of the whole window is absolutely Monday morning the 27th of July. The second-best shot is Monday afternoon the 3rd of August. Keep an eye on the longer-range stuff for the 3rd and 4th – it’s promising but a bit less certain this far out.
