The Lowdown

Right, crew, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' at Majanicho for the next couple of weeks. Straight up, this is a tough one to call. The swell's around, but conditions are just not cooperating at all. It's a classic case of "so close, yet so far". That small, clean window we all love just isn't opening up for a proper paddle session.

First thing you need to know – this whole 16-day stretch is a write-off for quality surfing. We're looking at relentless onshore and cross-onshore winds pretty much every day. From the 18th of August right through to the 2nd of September, the "poor surf conditions" tag is stuck on every single forecast. There's no standout day, no hidden gem in the second week. The wind just won't swing around to give us that clean, groomed face we're after.

The swell itself is not the enemy. We see a pulse of moderate wave energy, with the "combined energy of all swells directed here" climbing into the 200s and even hitting 368 on the 28th of August. That's a solid, moderate energy level. But all that power is being wrecked by the wind. Even on the 1st of September, when the swell period stretches out to 9 seconds – which usually means a bit more shape and grunt – the wind is either fresh or moderate breeze from the NE or NNE, ruining any chance of a clean wave.

There's simply no surf worth paddling out for here. A consistent, exposed reef and point like Majanicho needs that offshore love, and it's just not getting it. For a spot like this, when the wind is straight onshore or cross-onshore and the swell is consistently marked as "poor surf conditions", the set-up honestly looks more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.

I hate to say it, but pack the boards away for a bit. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a solid two-week blank.

Rusty.
