The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for this stretch.
Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you – this is a rough run for Lido Garda. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with barely a ripple to get excited about. The first real sniff of anything rideable comes on Tuesday, 18 August, but it’s a real tease. We’ve got a small 3ft swell from the WSW, with a short period of 6 seconds, so it’s weak and mushy. The combined energy is only 62, meaning it’s pretty weak. The wind is a light cross-off from the East, which is clean, but the wave quality is just ordinary. The water is sitting at 84°, which is a whopping 5° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s unusual, almost like bathwater. For a beginner, this might be a chance to get wet, but it’s not something to write home about.
That Tuesday afternoon and the rest of the week go downhill fast. We get a few mornings with glassy conditions, like on Thursday, 27 August, but there’s literally zero swell – the energy is 0. We’re talking about a flat lake. There’s a gap of several days with no surf worth mentioning. The only other tiny pulse comes on Saturday, 29 August, with a 0.7ft swell from the South, but again, it’s next to nothing and the wind is onshore. It’s not worth paddling out for.
The whole 16-day window is a bust. The consistency is poor, and the few waves that show up are tiny and weak. If you’re desperate for a paddle, Tuesday morning, 18 August, is your best bet, but keep your expectations low. It’s a classic flat spell for this lake, and we just have to wait for the forecasts to change.
Rusty.
