Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's happening at Crystal Pier and Pacific Beach for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you - it's not looking great for a paddle.
Right off the bat, Monday the 6th of July is a total no-go. The water is a balmy 70°, way warmer than usual for July, but that's the only good thing. We've got tiny swell and a cross-onshore breeze making a mess of things.
Tuesday the 7th brings a little more size, about 4ft from the SW in the morning, but that cross-onshore wind is still there, meaning the surface is choppy and blown out. It's a marginal call at best.
The rest of the week is more of the same: small swell around 3 to 3ft from the SW, and the wind just won't play ball. It's either cross-onshore or onshore, killing any chance of clean waves. The energy readings are moderate, but it doesn't matter when the quality is poor.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th and into the next week is a write-off. The swell stays small, the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, and the forecast says "poor surf conditions" over and over. There's a brief glimmer on Thursday the 16th of July afternoon when the wind turns clean from the NNW, but with the swell down at 2ft, it's still a marginal session.
The first real hope comes on the weekend of the 19th of July. Sunday the 19th shows a pulse of south swell building to 5ft in the afternoon, with a period of 13 seconds and strong energy (1055). The wind is light and onshore, so conditions are unknown but could be clean. This is the standout window, but it's a long way off - more than a week away - so don't book your flights just yet.
Best Bet: If you're patient, keep an eye on Sunday the 19th of July afternoon. That south swell is the only real pulse of size and energy in the whole forecast.
Otherwise, the board stays in the car. This is a tough run for surf.
