“Trecco Bay and Coney Beach are popular spots backed by an ugly fairground that needs bulldozing. Not very inspiring. The place, however, is the place to go in SE Wales to get shelter from the prevailing westerly winds when a big swell rolls in. The beach is set back behind a long stretch of low lying land and a breakwater that takes out any west chop. There is only moderate protection from the wind, which still adversely affects the peak when strong.

The waves can be fun here but are no more than that being generally fat and slow, sometimes they close out giving short rides. Always crowded but friendly. A good quality rocky point break splits Coney and Trecco but is best left to the locals if you are not experienced.

Parking is next to the beach.”
