Tauranga Bay in West Coast South Island is an exposed beach and point break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the east southeast with some shelter here from south winds. Still reasonable in light onshore winds Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the best swell direction is from the west southwest. The beach breaks consists of lefts and there is a left hand point break as well. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It's sometimes crowded here. Take care of rocks in the line up.

“The Spot is ok. BUT be aware! There is a strong Chanel on the left that you can use to get out close to the rocks. IF YOU GET TO FAR LEFT THERE IS A STRONG CURRENT TAKING YOU OUT TO SEA!!! I got all most swept out. If you get caught in it please swim to the left parallel to the beach back to the left line up. Take care”
