Tauranga Bay Surf Guide

Tauranga Bay in West Coast South Island is an exposed beach and point break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds are from the east southeast with some shelter here from south winds. Surfable in an onshore breeze Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west southwest. The beach breaks offer left-handers and there is a left hand point break too. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Sometimes crowded. Watch out for rocks.

“The Spot is ok. BUT be aware! There is a strong Chanel on the left that you can use to get out close to the rocks. IF YOU GET TO FAR LEFT THERE IS A STRONG CURRENT TAKING YOU OUT TO SEA!!! I got all most swept out. If you get caught in it please swim to the left parallel to the beach back to the left line up. Take care”
