Visitor reviews of Strandhill surf break
(NOTE: Reviews may be edited by our content team for the purposes of ensuring accurate and relevant information)
“Great place for learners but it has been monopolised by the surf schools, each school puts flags up which are markers for the surf schools and are set out. There can be 4 to 5 schools out at one time and are placed in the safest and best parts of the beach, one school operates 2 schools at a time. This can mean that the only place left to surf is in the dangerous parts or areas with no waves. Some. Of the instructors can be (one in particular) aggressive when you surf anywhere near the areas they have designated as there own and I have felt threatened by glaring looks and requests to move away, I am a complete advocate of the schools but there is no room for those that want to progress surfing at this beach. It has become a commercial enterprise with no apparent policies for surf schools on a public beach. The ocean and the beach should be a shared space and provision for all made through consultation with Sligo county Council and the surf schools.”
