“Worst attitude I have ever seen by a surfer! let me start by saying i have been surfing since I was 12 and although I am not originally from Dorset I have been living in Weymouth for nearly 30 years. I am originally from Cornwall and grew up surfing in Watergate, Harlyn, ETC. I am an ok surfer but I am never going to be a pro. I have never even bothered to try Ringstead before but the wind and sea looked promising so I went over. I decided to walk down to the beach to check and noticed a bloke coming from the beach with a board. I asked in a friendly tone, " whats the surf like buddy?", he replied " your not my buddy so go look for yourself" I was taken back a bit but I don't react that well to things like that so I confronted him, which I think surprised him! he said that he had surfed this break for 30 years and that it was people like me who were giving surfers a bad name. He ranted on about how poor he was and how rich I was, how my van was better than his,??
I have surfed all over the world and I have never come up against hostility like this! I was embarrassed by his attitude as there were so many holiday makers watching. Its ad really I surf because I love the sea and like talking to people. Anyway the surf is shite anyway, inconsistent, and no real power. It was developing a bit but there is a shallow reef which is rocky so if you are desperate for a surf just watch out for that. My advice don't bother, parking expensive and lots of d*heads around!!”
