Porth Colmon Surf Guide

Porth Colmon on Lleyn is a fairly exposed beach break that has inconsistent surf. Winter and spring are the best times of year to visit. Offshore winds blow from the southeast. Waves more likely to be from local windswells than distant groundswells and the ideal wave direction is from the southwest. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves. Best around high tide when the tide is falling. Surfing here means negotiating dangerous rips.

Topher from United Kingdom
“When Hells mouth is blown out and the wave buoys are in excess of 11ft the swell pushes round to Porth Colman. Works best when the wind direction is from the south which blows directly over the top of the cliffs providing sheltered off shore conditions. Wind from the south west and its cross off which interferes with the shape of the waves. Two breaks on this beach. As you walk over the field from the car park the first is directly in front of you to the left the second is on the far left hand side. Try and avoid anything right of middle especially at high tide due to rocks. Surfs best 2 hours either side of high tide. Shape of wave can be good but close outs are also common within sets.”
