“Point Leo is a great righthand point-break which has waves that caters for all levels. Surfers tend to flock here from the Mornington Peninsula in Winter when the waves become too rough and the wind swings away to the West or North. To the right you have Crunchy Point which tends to pick up less swell than the other breaks, it's not steep and tends to be gentle so this is a great spot for beginners and longboarders. The main break nicknamed "Suicides" is the break right up the top of the reef. This spot picks up virtually more swell than any other spot in that area, it has a steep takeoff which then breaks over a reef and can continue down to the main beach on a big day, it's a very fun wave, however, you'll need a high tide to avoid the reef, definitely a more advanced break. To the left of the Point Leo SLSC you have two reefs: First Reef and Second Reef. These breaks provide both lefts and rights and pick up a solid amount of swell. It can have a fairly moderate take off but the wave is pretty short because the reef ends right before the beach. This is a go-to spot when Suicides and Crunchies get too crowded. Point Leo works best when there's a decent-sized swell, which is why it's usually flat in summer. Autumn through to Spring is definitely the best time to surf here, when the conditions are right it can have some of the best waves in Mornington. It's worth noting that the size of the swell tends to drop when the tide is going out because the water has to make its way out of Western Port Bay and that can stop some of the swell getting into the bay. There's usually not many rips here because the water tends to go down the more sheltered beach and works its way out there, but there is a rip that flows right in between Crunchy Point and Suicide Reef on big days, so use it to your advantage if the waves are big. Wear booties to avoid cutting yourself on the reef!”

“This is a great little surf break which accommodates for beginners to advanced surfers. It is a great place to learn in summer as the surf is relatively small. Winter is defiantly the best season to surf here, however when the waves reach 2+ meters and a large tide is on it's way in, it can be near impossible to get out to the break. When the surf is big it stops you from taking short-cuts forcing you to paddle all the way up the point to the break instead of walking all the way up the point and paddling a short distance to the take-off zone. This sort-cut cannot be used when the surf is big as there is a fairly heavy shore break over rock where this is. All in all a great fun wave!”
