Mystics Surf Guide

Mystics on the South Coast is an exposed beach and point break that has fairly consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. Works best in offshore winds from the west northwest with some shelter here from northeast winds. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely and the ideal swell direction is from the southeast. Waves at the beach break both left and right and there is also a left hand point break. Best around mid tide when the tide is rising. It very rarely gets crowded here. Sharks have been reported here.

R from Australia
“Surfed here since the early 80's and still venture out a few times per year.
Basically it is the best beach break in Australia, better than Duranbah in Queensland or others in South Australia.
It has a bombie some 500 to 600m off shore that manifests the swells into heaving wedging beachbreak barrels predominantly lefts but there are plenty of rights and more so when the swell is southerly in direction.
Unlike you suggest the optimum winds are from the west-south west although north west is good too. A north east wind will chop it out. Best swell directions are easterly or north easterly although the more north the swell is the smaller mystics will be due to Bass point. But the offshore bombora does tend to organise the east and north east swells into peaks better than the south swells but in saying this there have been many epic days with south swell and west wind which is a common combination during the winter months.
Best bet April through to September”
