Lossiemouth Surf Guide
Lossiemouth on the East Coast is a fairly exposed beach break that is usually a safe bet. Winter and spring are the best times of year to visit. Works best in offshore winds from the south. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the north northeast. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It very rarely gets crowded here. Pollution may be a hazard at this break.

Been surfing about a year now. Started there and haven't tried anywhere else yet. It's a totally safe bet for beginners if it's not too messy. Sand only on this beach, no rocks protruding from water, Nothing to hurt yourself with (except your board!)
There are 2 car parks you can use. Both are in really close proximity to the beach. Plenty of ice cream and chip shops to get munch. Few hotels and bars.
Lossiemouth is a 5 minute drive to closest city (Elgin) More than enough places to go out or stay the night if you find Lossie too small.
If you're after lessons then there is a surf school that's local. Enough equipment for a group.
Overall, great place for any level of surfing, providing the conditions are right, as with any break.”

Kudos to everyone who helped us debug this over the past 3 months.
Be sure to click on the Advanced Surf option to see extra details about the sea-state. Look out for crossing swells and short period local wind swells and chop that will often spoil a groundswell even if the wind is perfect. As yet there is no allowance for this in the swell rating. This is something we are working on.
