Koh Phayam Surf Guide

Koh Phayam in Andaman Sea is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf. The best wind direction is from the northeast. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the south southwest. Waves at the beach are both lefts and rights. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown. Be wary of rips - they make surfing here dangerous.

Timbo from Canada
“Aow Yai Beach (Long Beach) on Phayam Island has some very good surf when the ground swell arrives from 210 degrees or more. The break works at most tide levels except very high tide when it closes on the beach. There can be dangerous rips as well.

At the center of the beach, South Star Surf Bar/Surf Koh Phayam, the island's first surf shop, rents surf boards, Stand-up-Paddle boards and body boards. The staff are Thai and very friendly.”
