Karekare in West Coast Auckland is an exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best wind direction is from the east. Groundswells and windswells are equally likely and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves. Be wary of rips - they make surfing here dangerous.
