Ballydavid reef needs a north or north-northwest swell which often happens when a deep low tracks between Iceland and Scotland; a regular occurence in autumn and winter.
Unfortunately, the wave tends to be very wind affected and onshore or cross-shore winds are very common. Glassy days are rare on this SW edge of Europe.
If you do catch it with a solid north swell and light or SE winds, it will be excellent.”
