Bournemouth Pier Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer down at Bournemouth Pier.

Honestly, I’ve got to be straight with you – this is a tough one. Looking through the whole 16-day window, there’s just nothing that’s going to get the heart pumping. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, choppy, or just plain messy conditions. The only time we see any swell at all, it’s small, weak, and the wind is usually working against us. It’s going to be a quiet few weeks.

Starting things off on Wednesday the 29th of July, the morning is glassy but there’s zero swell – a total flat spell. By the afternoon, a tiny 1ft swell from the WSW shows up with a short period of 3 seconds, but it’s getting smashed by a 16 mph cross-onshore wind. Combine that with a weak energy reading of (6), and it’s just not worth a paddle.

Thursday the 30th is more of the same. The morning has a tiny 1ft swell, but it’s cross-shore and bumpy. The afternoon picks up a bit to 3ft from the WSW, but it’s still at a short 4-second period, and that 16 mph cross-onshore wind makes it a choppy mess.

Friday the 31st of July offers a cruel tease. The morning is clean with a light offshore wind from the NNE, but the swell is barely a ripple at 0.7ft. It’s glassy, but there’s nothing to ride.

We slide into August with no real change. Saturday the 1st has a clean morning but the swell is basically non-existent. The afternoon brings a 2ft swell from the WSW, but the wind is howling cross-shore at 12 mph, making it messy.

From Sunday the 2nd of August right through to Wednesday the 12th of August, it’s a grim pattern. We see a few mornings with clean conditions and a light offshore breeze, like on Monday the 3rd with a 1ft swell from the SW, or Tuesday the 4th, again with a 1ft swell from the SW. But the energy is always weak – the highest reading in that whole stretch is a meager (20) on Monday the 3rd. The wave heights are tiny, and the moment the afternoon hits, a cross-onshore wind usually ruins any chance of a clean wave.

The final few days don't offer any redemption. The swell on offer is consistently under 2ft, and even when the wind goes light offshore, the waves are just too small to surf. This is a period where the lagoon is quieter than a library.

So, there’s no standout day, no hidden gem. For a beginner, there’s nothing to learn on, and for anyone else, there’s nothing to ride. The best advice I can give is to give the board a wax and wait for the next forecast. Things can change, but right now, this is a solid blank run.
