Whale Watch Reef Surf Guide

Whale Watch Reef in Kaikoura and Marlborough is an exposed beach and reef break that only works once in a while with no particular seasonal pattern. Works best in offshore winds from the southwest. Waves just as likely from local windswells as from distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the northeast. No beach break here and there is right hand reef break too. Best around low tide when the tide is falling. It very rarely gets crowded here. Beware of rips, rocks and sharks.
