Waipio Valley Surf Guide

Waipio Valley in Big Island is a river break that has fairly consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds are from the south southwest. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the north. Good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Watch out for - Rips / undertow - Rocks - Localism - Sharks.

“Local don’t like the tourist or visitors. Too many tourists make the road going up and down very dangerous by not yielding to traffic. The locals know who’s not from there. Don’t expect a warm welcome because more than likely your not gonna get it, especially if you try and surf. Stay on top at the lookout and enjoy the view.”
