Waihua in Hawkes Bay is an exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. Works best in offshore winds from the northwest with some shelter here from north winds. Easily blown out by an onshore breeze Tends to receive distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the south. The beach breaks consists of lefts. Best around mid tide when the tide is rising. An uncrowded break, even when it is working. Surfing here means negotiating dangerous rips.
