Sheeps Jaw Surf Guide

Sheeps Jaw on Gower is a fairly exposed reef break Offshore winds blow from the south southeast with some shelter here from southwest winds. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell angle is from the west. The beach break provides left and right handers. Best around low tide. Even when there are waves, it's not likley to be crowded. It can even get crowded enough to be dangerous.

“Sheeps Jaw is the name given to the break on the little beach located just north of Bury Holm. At high tide this area is entirely covered by the sea.

It faces NE and you might imagine it might be good alternative to nearby Llangennith when the wind is blowing from the SW making it onshore there. It isn't. Surprisingly little swell gets in here. The waves have always been poor here whenever I have seen it. So poor in fact that I haven't bothered going in. I suspect that the location would make for some strong tidal currents too.

If there is a good swell running and you need to get some shelter from a SW wind, head further north to Blue Pool Corner or Broughton. These are much better than Sheeps Jaw.”
