Cliff from United States
“Back in the late sixties and early seventies the Light house jetty and the next 2nd jetty both produce outstanding winter surf featuring sand spot barrels and some very nice long tube rides at times. The winters of 68 & 69 brought lots of sand from up the coast that filled in at both jetties providing an excellent angled sand spot bottom. This sand gradually over the years move on but will fill in if there is a lot of north westerly swell action during the winter, the summer surf tends to have poor shape and does not offer the long tube rides one can achieve if the sand spit bottom conditions are working. The old light house is now gone removed by greedy revenuers looking to cash in on more overpriced parking spots. It had some real history including a giant pier that at onetime extended from the end of the jetty a great distance out from the shore. It hat railroad track and served to unload and load freight from merchant ships to rail cars. The light house was a wonderful landmark and latter served as lifeguard headquarters , before it was sadly replaced with asphalt.”
