Sandy Point on the East Coast is a fairly exposed beach break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds blow from the north northeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the south southwest. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves. Rarely crowded here. Watch out for dangerous rips.

“A great place for beginners to intermediates on its good days. The bars at Manuka provide better rides than the short close-outs that most of the beach gets. Locals are friendly, and no hassle because there's so much beach to share. I've outgrown it now to some extent, but I still get caught out some days when the larger sets come in and remind me that they wear the pants. The best clean days might get to about 1 and a half times head height.”
