Oostende Surf Guide

Oostende on the West Coast is a fairly exposed beach break that has inconsistent surf. Summer in particular tends to be flat. Offshore winds blow from the southeast. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the best swell direction is from the north northwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Beware of obstacles,.

“Do not underestimate the difficulty, the currents, the pain to forecast a good swell if you need to drive there from Luxemburg or inlands. xD when it's rough, difficulty goes up to 3+? The energy to get out, the currents, can be unbearable, especially if no shortboard, the waves aren't that difficult to ride, but because moshy, even if higher, very hard to catch, loads of paddeling. xD some clean breaks in france (point breaks with 1.2 m waves near sable d'ollonne) are easier to catch then 0.7 at northern sea. xD But Northshores are always fun, less cool kids, more dedicated ones! Oostende surfers are very nice, Blankneberge at times had a pretty "harsh" rude environement considering locals. Better because pier filters the waves and the currents, but the mood at the lineup, - pretty agreesif for such mediocre waves, and they're counted already. So if 20 locals and 1 elderly guy outside who signals them the waves.... not funny. to say the least. But we don't go there often anymore, prefer Oostende. xD”
