Ohope Beach in Bay of Plenty is a fairly exposed beach and point break that has unreliable waves with no particular seasonal pattern. Works best in offshore winds from the south southwest with some shelter here from west winds. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the north northeast. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights and there is a left hand point break as well. Best around high tide. Rarely crowded here.

“Ohope (West End) is a very flat shallow beach which does not handle bigger swells. Rarely really good, mostly small soft waves. Can get crowded.
Overall pretty rubbish break, better elsewhere on coast.
I would not rate more than 3 stars.”
