Surf Forecasts:

What's the best time of year to surf Nexus (for consistent clean waves)?

decemberBest Season: winter
The best time of year for surfing Nexus with consistent clean waves (rideable swell with light / offshore winds) is during Winter and most often the month of December. Clean surfable waves are typically found 50% of the time in December while 36% of the time it tends to be blown out. For the remaining 14% of the time it is considered too small by most surfers but may still be OK for beginners and groms at times.
Surfable waves that hold up well for longer rides in prevailing cross-offshore, offshore or light wind conditions.
blown out
Surfable sized waves that are of poorer quality due to prevailing onshore, cross-onshore or windy conditions (may be preferable for kitesurfing).
too small
Waves usually considered too small for good surf. Some wave-magnet breaks may still work though if conditions are right (on occasion).

“Nexus is a resort based spot, its an half hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. The waves are ok when it works ,but it is dependent on the right swell and wind as are most surf spots in Sabah. The waves itself are mild beach breaks , they have a tendancy to close out a little most of the time. I have surfed the southern point at about 3ft but its rare . I have stayed at the resort over 6 times over the years and only had the point work that one time. They say it works more in the southwest monsoon season, june -july. They say you cant surf this spot unless your staying at the resort, but you can try, just park away from the main entrance walk down to the beach and have your surf, remember we rely on you to do the right thing so we can still surf the place.”
