Maghery Surf Guide

Maghery in Donegal is a reasonably exposed point break that has inconsistent surf. Summer in particular tends to be flat. Offshore winds blow from the east and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west. There is no point break. Best around low tide. Crowds are never a problem here. Take care to avoid the rocks.

Colin from Ireland
“The point is a very rare event, there is however a beach break to fall back on that is a bit more consistent. It gets bigger the further down the beach you go but can suffer from a lot of kelp in the water. Usual beach break, best towards high tide, needs an offshore wind and an onshore just leaves it a lumpy mess.”
