Maghery in Donegal is a fairly exposed point break that only works when conditions are just right. Summer in particular tends to be flat. Offshore winds blow from the east and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west. There is no point break. Best around low tide. An uncrowded break, even when it is working. Watch out for rocks.

    “The point is a very rare event, there is however a beach break to fall back on that is a bit more consistent. It gets bigger the further down the beach you go but can suffer from a lot of kelp in the water. Usual beach break, best towards high tide, needs an offshore wind and an onshore just leaves it a lumpy mess.”
