Maghera Strand Surf Guide

Maghera Strand in Donegal is a fairly exposed beach break that has quite consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the southeast with some shelter here from south winds. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west northwest. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights. An uncrowded break, even when it is working.

“Maghera is a beautiful beach but has claimed many drowning victims over the years due to very treacherous currents in the bay making it totally unsuitable water sports or swimming.
Please include this information so people can stay safe.”
