Rocha Negra Surf Guide

Luz-Rocha Negra in Algarve is a very sheltered reef break that has inconsistent surf. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here. Offshore winds blow from the northwest. Groundswells are more common than windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the west northwest. There is no beach break and there is a right hand reef break as well.. Best around high tide. It very rarely gets crowded here. Watch out for rocks and pollution.

“This is not the case at all. As a resident of this part, there are rarely fights between locals, and the surfing is for those skilled enough to navigate and manoeuvre the reef breaks. The reef can be dangerous if you are a beginner surfer, yes, but the reference to dangerous locals is totally false.”
