La Virgen Surf Guide

La Virgen in South Uruguay is an exposed point break that has quite reliable surf. Autumn and winter are the favoured times of year for waves. Works best in offshore winds from the north northwest. Groundswells more frequent than windswells and the optimum swell angle is from the south. There is a left hand point break here. Even when there are waves, it's not likley to be crowded. Submerged rocks are a hazard.

Gabriel from Uruguay
“Best swell for La Virgen is from E or ESE, best wind N or NW.

It is not consistent at all, it might break 4 or 5 times a year, it needs a big swell.
It is one of the heaviest waves in Uruguay with a dangerous rocky bottom. It can hold 10 ft or more.
The take off is steep, the first section is the most dangerous, there is a big rock that might come out in front of you depending on the angle of the wave and the tide, after that it gets fat and then it hits a second reef and gives you a nice wall.”
