Krui Surf Guide

Krui in Sumatra is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf. May-Oct (Dry Season) is the best time of year for waves. The best wind direction is from the east northeast. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell angle is from the southwest. There is a left hand reef break. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Watch out for rocks.

“We stayed at Secret Sumatra resort infront of the peak, from looking around the place it seems to be the best set up there, there are three waves that are offshore in the trades out front and another 6 in walking distance. There are something like 25 waves in the area and it's super consistent, there's a few more people around than there used to be but the vibe is good and these guys get you a lot of sessions with no one else around. The camp has a nice big infinity pool with a beach bar on the beach that's exclusive to their guests. We had amazing waves the whole time, they are super on it and know a few spots others apparently don't know about, Dean & Jodie, the Australian owners are legends and so were the surf guides. Epic food, you get your own rooms with AC, we couldn't have asked for more for what we payed, it's a little more that what you pay at the other places but that's with all your transport included with no hiccups, we had friends staying at another place up the road and they had a wallet, phone and keys stolen from their motorbike so in the end the extra 400 more we payed we got back tenfold in the waves we scored and having all of our gear at the end, the experience you get with these guys is epic, you've just gotta book a fair bit out as they fill up pretty early. I'm be going back again next year.”
