“I grew up in Kaka Point and surfed the local area throughout my teens. Obviously winter has the best breaks. However over summer months around December throws up some surprises right in front of the surf club. You can get 4 to 6 foot left and rights swelling up on a good day. And they are clean breaks.

The shark comment is a bit over the top. You are more likely to find Sea Lions dashing playfully around your board in the waves. Be warned they are not friendly and will bite a chuck out of you if you get close to them.

The sharks most common in the shallow waters are 7-gill reef sharks, little rig and dog fish; all very harmless and unlikely to be seen. There are no man-eaters.”
