Table - best surf conditions forecast for Biarritz - Grande Plage over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks at Biarritz - Grande Plage.
To be honest, looking at the whole 16-day window, this is a real tough one. The surf is small and pretty much every day has a problem with the wind or the conditions. The best we can say is that there are a couple of brief windows where you might get a fun, clean little wave, but you’ll need to be patient and pick your moments.
The water temperature is sitting at 76°, which is a whopping 8° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a real standout – very unusual, and you won’t need a thick wetsuit, that’s for sure.
The first real chance you get is on Friday afternoon, July 10th. The swell is a tiny 2ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is weak (86). The reason to look at it is that the wind goes glassy. That’s a major plus. You’ll be surfing tiny, clean waves, but it’s about as good as it gets this week. The score is low, but it’s the only glassy window.
Then, on Saturday morning, July 11th, we have a similar story. The swell is the same 2ft from the WNW (9 sec, 102 energy), but the wind is offshore from the ENE. That will clean it up. Again, it’s small, but it’s the best pairing of offshore wind and a little bit of energy in the whole run.
After that, it’s a long stretch of onshore winds, straight onshore winds, and tiny waves. There’s a real gap from Saturday afternoon all the way through to the end of the third week in July. The swell gets a little bigger around the 24th, hitting 6ft from the NW (8 sec, 439 energy), which is moderate energy, but the wind is cross-on and choppy. It’s messy. For the more experienced crew, that swell might offer some bigger, more powerful lumps, but the wind is going to ruin it for a clean session. The 6ft is not massive, but it’s the biggest of the run, and the period is short, so it’ll be a bit of a bumpy, wind-affected mess.
Honestly, for a beginner-friendly spot, the conditions are mostly poor. The best bet is to aim for the 2ft glassy or offshore windows on Friday the 10th or Saturday the 11th of July. It’s not a classic, but it’s the only clean surf on the menu.
Rusty.
