Visitor reviews of Goulds Inlet surf break
(NOTE: Reviews may be edited by our content team for the purposes of ensuring accurate and relevant information)
“Gould’s inlet is a fun break made up of a nice beach break south of the river mouth and shifting sand bars across the river. Surfing the bars expect the line up to change a lot.
The break is very tide dependent. Georgia is famous for its nine foot plus tidal changes. A 5 foot tide will break entirely different from a 9 foot tide.
The breaks can start working about three hours before high tide and work till an hour or so after high tide. Once again depending upon tide flow height. At low tide it’s flat.
The area provides amazingly good fun waves. With a good selection of boards in your quiver waves can be scored most days. Though rarely getting above chest high the form makes up for lack of size.
If you are going to this break for the first time plan to arrive about two hours before high tide. Start south of the point and work north into the river mouth as the tide fills in.
Hazards are stingrays, sharks, and not respecting the current as the tide begins to fall. The water is murky but environmentally clean. The water is productive so there are lots of critters.
Parking on a busy beach days is almost non existent.
The spot covers a large area and is never crowded.
Most Locals are happy to see someone else in the lineup. The surf community is fairly small and friendly. So if you get near a local expect some hoots when you get a good ride.”
