El Escambrón Surf Guide

El Escambrón in Puerto Rico is an exposed reef break that has dependable surf and can work at any time of the year. Offshore winds are from the south and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the north. There is no reef break. It very rarely gets crowded here. Submerged rocks are a hazard.

Carlos J Claudio from United States
“I am from Puerto Rico although I live in the United states now. I have surfed this spot (and many others) countless of times. El Escambron is more of a general location than a surf spot. At el ecambron you will find two surf spots: "La Ocho" and "Fiji" or "'Little Fiji" as it is named in this website. El Escambron is the name of the bathing beach in front of these surf spots. No matter how big the surf is, at the Escambron you can relax and enjoy the ocean with kids and family and not worry about the surf. You can see the peolpe surfing far in the distance but the beach is protected from incoming surf by natural barriers and by the distance the surf brakes from the shore. its the place to relax after a long session at one of the above mentioned surf spots, and the have rinsing showers to clean yourself of salt water before heading home. Win, win.”
