East End and The Gap in Taranaki is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that has reasonably consistent surf. Autumn and winter are the best times of year for waves. The best wind direction is from the southeast with some shelter here from southwest winds. Handles onshore winds better than most spots Windswells and groundswells in equal measure and the ideal swell direction is from the west. Waves at the beach are mainly rights and in addition there are both left and right reef breaks.. It very rarely gets crowded here.
