Cliffs in Gisborne and Mahia is a reasonably exposed reef break that has inconsistent surf with no particular seasonal pattern. Works best in offshore winds from the north northeast with some shelter here from northeast winds. Groundswells more frequent than windswells and the ideal swell direction is from the south. There is no reef break. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Rarely crowded here.
