Browns Surf Guide

Browns in Big Island is a reasonably exposed reef break that has consistent surf. Winter is the optimum time of year for surfing here. Offshore winds are from the east southeast. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the northwest. A choice of left and right reefs. When it's working here, it can get crowded. Beware of rips and sharks.

“This wave Browns or Awili point is a perfect giant point break that breaks up to 15-18 ft.North swells best,very dangerous due to rocks directly inside of takeoff area. At 2-5 juicy waves inside bay rights that go into chocks reef very quickly.Too dangerous to surf as waves increase 6-10+. Rideable safely again at 12-15 ft as wave breaks outside from rocks. The bigger it gets the safer it is,because your farther out from rocks. Jet ski/ tow in best bet. Don't try it.”
