“Whoever wrote your report obviously has spent little time surfing Bowes. Myself and a couple of friends staring surfing there in 1970 and were the first to go there on a consistent basis. It picks up more swell than most places around the Geraldton area. The most surfed spots are not the rivermouth but north about half a kilometre where there are 3 lefts and a right to chose from. Also south of the rivermouth are a couple of reefbreaks that can be very good and have bigger sets although sneek sets can punish you. The breaks north of the river are also reef and work best on low to medium tides and can be fast breaking fun waves. The best wind is Northeast, not east as a lot of the time the east is slightly side shore. The very north-end left can still be good with a light e/s east as it is tucked in closer to shore. Best time to surf Bowes is April/ May because of consistent offshores and groundswells. Summer can still be O.K. when offshore and low swell(also cyclones up north can generate some classic days.)
