Akito River Mouth and Reef in the Waiararpa is an exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the west. Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the best swell direction is from the southeast. The beach breaks peel to the left and there is also a left hand reef break.. Surfable at all stages of the tide. It very rarely gets crowded here. Take care of rips and rocks.
