Soft wind waves near the boulder point at the south of the Para Para Beach in Golden Bay. The mix of rivers and boulder points looks ideal, but Farewell spit blocks almost all Tasman Sea swell so all you can get here is generated in the 150kms fetch to Kapiti. Strong east winds over that stretch are rare. In theory, an east gale should kick up about 4m of swell over that fetch. The SE gale that caused this swell sent 4.5m swells towards Taranaki, with about half that in Golden Bay making for waist to shoulder high surf.
