Vancouver Island’s Day Of Days With Reed Platenius
Surf-Forecast recently helped the 21-year-old Canadian pro surfer and adventurer score some cold water perfection at home.
The talented goofyfooter Reed Platenius has been charting the adventures and misadventures of surfing with his mates on and around Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada, for his epic YouTube series.
Notorious for its huge amount of wild, rugged coastline, the islands are reachable by boat or sometimes only by float plane. Chasing surf on these endless, unexplored shores, Reed has arguably grown up more on sea than land.
Under the stewardship of some of the people who put Canadian surfing on the map, such as Pete Devries, Noah Cohen, and Raph Bruhwiler, Reed now carries the torch into the emerald green barrels in front of cedar-lined shores, with snow-capped peaks filling out the backdrop.
So when Surf-forecast’s 12-day wave energy map first showed the first big run of North Pacific swell of the season, Reed was all over it. Along with his equally adventurous crew, they scored a rare, hollow, fast righthand point break and a super fun-looking left.

The clip is topped off with a full minute of fails, and between the perfect waves, the epic scenery, and the loads of laughs, you’d be doing well to find a crew that had a better time this Halloween.
