Mike Gardner was the first Surfer to land on NZ's first Surf Mag Cover.... A Surf Legend from way back must not be forgotten hence this photo to share.... Mike Gardner still checks the surf daily on the top of Sugar Loaf Hill.....Great Barrier Island...

Murray Baylis	Hi I was very interested in this photo because I am writing a history of surfing in Opunake Taranaki. Apparently according to some old locals Mike came to Opunake in the late 1950s and had quite an influence with his surfing and a having a lighter more modern surfboard for the time. I'm pretty sure this is the Mike Gardener .
