Waihua in Hawkes Bay is an exposed beach break that has fairly consistent surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. The best wind direction is from the northwest with some shelter here from north winds. Easily blown out by an onshore breeze Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the south. The beach breaks peel to the left. Best around mid tide when the tide is rising. Even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown. Take care of the strong rips here.

FEATURE UPDATE: we now show red swell icons for 'open sea' swells that are travelling in an unfavourable direction for the surf break. In places, these swells may still wrap around coastlines and produce smaller waves at some breaks. They are also significant for windsurfers and other water users that tend to venture further off-shore.
