Waihau Bay in East Cape is a quite exposed beach and reef break that has quite reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the south and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the north. The beach breaks offer lefts and rights and in addition, both left and right reef breaks add variety. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown.
